This is a verse I have had to live out like never before over the last several months. To put it in context, Jesus is preaching the Sermon on the Mount and teaching His followers about worrying about the necessities of life. He tells them in the previous verses to look at the lilies of the field and the birds of the air and note that God takes care of them. He then says,
"But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you. O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious saying, 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'"
Wow, what a truth!
So, if God has promised to provide what we need, then what is our responsibility?
The believer's responsibility is to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. That begs the question, what does that entail? It is our responsibility to live lives that are seeking to please God above anything or anyone else. When it is Him that we seek to please supremely, He provides for us all that we need to live our lives. It is truly miraculous to see God provide in your life when you need it the most.
There is no doubt that the weight of providing the necessities of life can get heavy. I implore your, however, to keep your attention focused on living for the Lord and allow Him to meet your needs. By the way, He knows what you are in need of at all times. If you will do as He has commanded, then He will provide for you as He has promised.
