This Means War VII

In this 7th post of this series, we look at Ephesians 6:15,

"and, as shoes for our feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace."

It is impossible to stand, as Paul has instructed us to do, in warfare without proper footwear. The shoes of a Roman soldier had spikes on the bottom and would lace up to just below the knee. It was vitally important that the soldier's feet were well prepared for battle.

Likewise, we, as believers, when we go into battle against the devil must be prepared. We are told that our shoes in spiritual warfare is the Gospel. We must first begin by defining just what is the Gospel. There is only one true Gospel. Paul writing to the Galatian church writes in chapter 1 that there is no other Gospel besides the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are 4 distinct aspects of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

First, there is the virgin birth of Jesus. If the Gospel you have been taught or are teaching doesn't teach that Jesus was born of a virgin, then you are being exposed to a false gospel. This doctrine has been fought extremely hard in recent days, however, it cannot be found false. The virgin birth of Christ is essential.

Second, there is the sinless life of Christ. It is true that Jesus lived on Earth in complete obedience to the Father. There was never a time in which Jesus ever sinned. If Jesus had sinned, then He could not be the Savior.

Third, there is the atoning substitutionary death of Christ on the cross. It was on the cross that Jesus laid His life down for His sheep. He took upon Himself the sins of all who would believe on Him. It is by the death of Christ that we have forgiveness of our sins.

Finally, there is the literal and physical resurrection of Jesus. As you know, this truth separates us from every other religion. It is true that Jesus was resurrected defeating hell, death, and the grave.

Believer, it is upon that Gospel that we find our stability and footing. It is upon the Gospel that we are able to stand and find security. I am not secure enough to stand on any other foundation than the Gospel. It is the Gospel the carries us into battle against the devil.

It is imperative that we are always equipped with the Gospel. We can rest our very eternity upon it.
