This has been the summer of camps in the Hensley house, and we unknowingly saved the best for last. I've been in a 3 week stint of volleyball camps, and each provided different learning experiences. First, we had ETSU come to our facilities where we worked on the mechanics. Next we were in Chattanooga working on team and game-time play. Finally, we hadn't had quite enough of Chattanooga, so we made the drive back to Chattanooga to the University of Tennessee @ Chattanooga for FCA Volleyball camp!
This was the BEST CAMP EVER!
But first, our team! This was taken after the last game of the week, and they would probably kill me if they knew I shared this! :)
..about the camp..
FCA, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, put on the most fun, faith-filled camps. Our days started with our morning session full of praise & worship music (Hello my favorite song that I shared here). The music was led by Haley Smith, & she can sang!
We then had various skits & testimonies from the huddle leaders. The sessions concluded with Kele Eveland just being completely real & raw with us about faith & volleyball.
We then enjoyed huddle time, quiet time, and volleyball games for the remainder of the day.
We ended the day with evening sessions that were just as deep and amazing and fun.
Not gonna lie. I was worried about our girls. This was a lot of church for a group of girls with varying amounts of church in their lives. There were clearly a lot of walls around each of the girls, and they really struggled at first to let go of what people thought. By the end of the week, most were truly able to let go of the cares of the world to fully worship with their teammates.
We were able to bond & truly begin to understand each other.
We had the coolest huddle leader ever too. She wasn't phony or too bubbly, but she was exactly what our girls needed. She cheered and challenged the girls. She left such an imprint on us all that the girls want to road trip to Kirby's wedding in the Fall...I apologize in advance!
I could literally go on forever on what I took away this week, but I'll spare y'all!
First I want to repeat that #GodIsGood y'all. Girls who had never heard of Jesus were presented with the Gospel. This week coincided with the year anniversary of some pretty crappy events in my life, but God showed me that those trials and tests from last year put me in the place to impact these girls in this season of their lives. What a privilege!! One leader shared something little that stuck with me... "TESTIMONY: test I'm on, Y?" How great & catchy is that?!
We should look at trials and tests as testimony opportunities. I was able to share parts of my testimony with the girls. I was challenged to share what God has done for my family & myself more.
Our verse this week was Joshua 1:9,
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
I'm challenged to be more courageous, and not because of myself, but because of God's strength!
18 teams that grew so much in 3 days!
We're coming for ya, FCA, next year!
