From the Desk of a Reformationist

For most, October 31, 1517 is just another day in the past. For those of us who are Protestants, however, it is the day that started the movement for us to be so. Martin Luther, a monk and scholar in the Roman Catholic Church, began a revolt against the church that has rippled throughout history.

It's really sad to think about how many professing Christians know nothing about the Protestant Reformation. I'm convinced we live in a biblically illiterate church culture. Most of the people who sit in pews don't know the books of the Bible, nor anything about those who have given their lives for the Gospel.

Over the next several weeks we will examine the 5 Solas of the Reformation. Luther's 95 theses could be placed into this overview. These 5 Solas are what we, as Protestants, hang our hats on.

The 5 Solas are:
  1. Sola Scriptura- "Scripture alone"
  2. Sola Fide- "Faith alone"
  3. Sola Gratia- "Grace alone"
  4. Souls Christus- "Christ alone"
  5. Soli Deo Gloria- "to the glory of God alone"
I look forward to looking at these over the next several weeks. It is also my hope that this will increase your desire to learn more about church history. From my experience, this caused that reaction in my life.

A great resource for more studying about Reformation Day (also known as Halloween) can be found HERE! Ligonier Ministries offers so many resources to Christians. Check out some of the links there!
